Values in the graphs below represent the direct short-wave irradiance that would be received by a flat or sloped surface at the latitude of Vancouver (49° N) in absence of any atmosphere. Values are approximated using the formulae in lecture 14 and the reading package. They can be also found in T.R. Oke 'Boundary Layer Climates', Appendix A1, p. 339-342, formulae A1.1 to A 1.4 and A 1.6 to A1.8). See also the applet on latitudional effects.
